Another great art show last night at AR4T in Laguna.  Mr. Corey Smith, one of my personal favorite artists was showing off his stuff.  The highlight of the show was not all the great art on the walls or all the uber peeps in the house, it was the fact that Corey introduced us all to what he calls his Personal Pyramids- A life changing healing device!  I can truly say that I am a changed man after last nights show!  Well done Mr. Smith!

NXTZ OG REUNION // Words and Photos by Andrew Mutty

NXTZ has finally got the original team together and had a great big "Thank You" party to the original 11 members of the NXTZ team. NXTZ made its start from a small group of hard working individuals in the New England Area, and after the sale of the brand to Flow Snowboards in 2009, the crew deserved this long awaited get together. Some eager members showed up early on Friday night in Sunapee NH, to be in the woods before the fun began. The guys all got up early and hustled out to play golf at Ragged Mtn in the poring rain, while the girls shuffled around Southern Vermont in search for dinner. The evening followed with a large dinner made by our hostess Rosann Schwartz, who is a wiz in the kitchen with her heritage in Italian Sicilian cooking. Later that night was followed by a NXTZ ping pong tournament, and finally capped off with a special surprise... NXTZ awards. Everyone that contributed a roll in the brands beginnings received a very special award. The Hand crafted trophies were made by Andrew Mutty, who felt that everyone who contributed to the success of NXTZ was well overdue for some recognition. No reunion could be complete without a sneak peak at next years.... 2011-2012 NXTZ line. Dale Rehberg was very gracious in sending the newest product to the team, and people were stoked. A great weekend for everyone involved and many good wish's to the originals, and to the current NXTZ lovers! Woke up this AM and it was a bit chilly! Alright, last night we had the pleasure of watching The People Crew's newest snow flick, GOOD LOOK....and it was very very very good.  Trust me here, I don't give to many props to to many things, and this my friends, was legit to the max.  An all star line-up with top notch riding, and being somewhat of an old dog myself, it's nice to still see people tossing up huge F/S 3's and some xlg B/S 180's...brings back memories...HA!  If you get a chance, go check this flick out, you won't be disappointed!




We were also treated to the premier of THE RASCALS...and yes WE LOVE SCOTTY WITTLAKE!!  This flick gives you a riders perspective of one of the best areas in the World...Mt. Baker.  Oh how it brings chills to my spine to see Baker at it's best.

what happens on Donner Pass, stays on Donner Pass....

so last week some of the NXTZ support group were shredding the Donner Pass region of Lake Tahoe....since I was not there to witness this insanity, I have only heard the rumors of what went down.  And as they say what happens in ____  stays in ____. (insert your own words here).

I do have a few shots that actually document a few of our cronies in the snow, and they are telling me that this is in fact Donner Pass...hard to tell if you ask me...

OK....Since it's an official HUMP DAY here, and hump days are usually a mellow day for most, I figured I would drop in and give you all a sampling of some of the finest dancehall reggae.  If you happened to listen to dancehall in the late 80's and early 90's, then you will understand how this list was compiled.  Now, don't get me wrong here, I love ROCK, PUNK, Blues and all that but a part of me is very in-tune with reggae and dancehall reggae in particular.  I can blame this on a person who introduced me to reggae a long time ago..Mr. Jeff Brushie.  I was a young pup and I was spending the summer up at Mt. Hood in 1990 (or 91") can't really remember actually......and anyway, I met Jeff that summer (along with a bunch of others who are still some of the best and true friends one can have) and got to hang a bit.  He had this bitchin' VW vanagon with a serious sound system custom built into the entire interior.  I mean, this shit was over the top and back then, it was all about bass...and I mean bass...so what better type of music to pump out than Dancehall!!!  One of the very first dancehall sounds that I was introduced to then was Cutty Ranks....Stopper, and to this day, if I hear this it brings me back the that same camp ground just outside Govy under the roof top of huge pine trees....a moment that will never be taken away.. so with this said, here is my list of must listen to dancehall reggae...

So now then, since I have not updated since the end of the SIA show...I figure I'd make a mash-up out of this post and get you up to speed with what the NXTZ worker bees have been busy doing...then I will fill you in on what the Athletic Support Group has been up to as well...but I figured that you already know that the riders have been out getting it done...so..ha.

First up...SIA wrapped up nicely with an on-snow demo that took place at Winter Park, CO.  If you haven't heard already (then your living under a rock) it was cold as shit up in those hills.  Some of us lucky ones got out before hell froze over.  I do have reports saying it was -22 degrees the next day, and that my friends, it just too butt ass cold for anyone to be doing anything....but the show went on.  Flow had the set-up rolling and all kinds of shred heads were busy trying out the new goods Flow has to offer (as well as every other snow and ski company you can think of.)  It was a great time for sure....

I do have to say that Kevin Addy (NXTZ / FLOW National Sales Manger) can still hold his own and in fact, since we had a little side bet of who would win at a chinese downhill I'd have to say my man Mr. Addy just may have taken the gold right out from under my nose.....

All while the industry was busy selling things to people who buy things a little event was going on in Aspen....the X-Games.  A little birdie sent me a few pics of this event and to my surprise I have for you a glimpse of a few very special NXTZ items that I made for our friends at Nike 6.0 and Frends....yup...take a look right here......

Germany could very well be in the lead as the creators of the worlds best beer...this is a pretty big statement and I will go head to head with anyone who would like to challenge this statement...here, in fact is one of the best you can get (in my book, and my book runs deep)

ok then....a quick flight back to the states (quick only because I slept for all 10 hours of it!) laundry done, kids and wife kissed and off to Japan.

The Interstyle show in Yokahoma Japan is a great little show with all the players partaking.  Here is a run-down of what goes down in Japan...

trains and more trains
small rooms that smell of cigs (but you can't smoke anywhere, but inside)
technically advanced Japan doesn't have wifi use available anywhere when I needed it
great food
great beer
bad whisky
karaoke (I think??)
early mornings or long nights, however you want to look at it?
fashion trends or fashion failure, again, however you want to look at it...but I see it as way advanced!
super crowded everywhere and anywhere
heated toilet seats everywhere
laser guided bidets that never miss the target
lots of snow
and of course---sake and fish to top it off.

I bought this as a joke for the boss man...and we ended up liking it!!

my longest standing Japanese friend UG!!! This man has been to hell and back with me (and the Ride crew) during many Japan visits...not this time though..he did manage to hand off 2 ice cold Kirin at 9:30 am though!!  HA

Here is a funny one...do you know Kicker Fucker Chicken?...now you do.  This cat runs it and he also has one of the greatest shops going in Japan.  Talk about bringing newness to snowboarding...he does it via his shop and introducing kids to the sport and he also does it with his fashion....please meet Toshiki!!!!

and one more....these 2 cats work at Shriro Group Japan and they are the real deal.  Old school riders who have roots as deep as any!! Big up Boys!!!

oh..I can't forget my boy Goro either!  This guy was just a kid with amazing style back in the 90's when I first started visiting Japan.  He is one hell of a guy and runs a small company called REPLANT in Japan.  Good peeps doing good things right here!

If you do happen to get the chance to head to Japan, take it.  It will open your eyes to things and ways that I am sure you have not seen or tried.  A super culture that is driven by manners and respect!! Arigato Gozaimasu Japan and Shriro Group Japan for a great trip filled with great memories and more stories to add to the book.


Onto what we do best...making shit.  NXTZ has had a great response to the line set forth and we intend to complete this with even "more better" goods for SP/SM 2012!!  Hold on to your horses folks....we're coming in hot!

Alright, us lucky ones who have the day to day office job, finally got to get out and raise some hell.  Just got back from the SIA show out in Denver and it was hoppin'!  Great to see the retailers with positive vibes flowin'.  We had a nice little booth that was being shared with our good friend Jens from Amplifi!  When you get a chance go check this stuff out...it's just that good!!

We had some late nights, early mornings and long days but all-in-all it was a good time.

Once the show was over we packed up and headed to the hills.  Since SIA hosts an on-snow demo right after the show, we got to work setting up the Flow booth.  It was COLD and snowy the first day!  I strapped on the old board and took some runs with the Flow Sports Crew and some great retailers.  Feels good to get the blood flowing again....

Anywho, now we are getting all set for the EU version of SIA that is none other than ISPO.  If you have never been to ISPO or maybe your one of those people that just doesn't like trade shows..well, you're missing out big by NOT being at ISPO.  It's SIA on steroids and every brand you could ever think of and more are there, in full force...and since this goes down in Munich, Germany, the people really know how to do it up...It ain't no babies game, that's for sure.

Some of the crew here at NXTZ made their way from the couch to the lift on Monday to ring in 2011!  If you have never been to Baldy, then let's keep it that way.  The place is great and I like to call it Mt. Baker by the Sea.  It's a special place indeed.  When standing on the very top looking out over the beautiful scenery, it's hard to imagine that right there, at that moment in time, you are about 1 hour away from Skid Row........think about that for a second.
